When they reach the age of ten, princesses are supposed to move into elaborate bedrooms that are built at the tops of the tall towers of their castle. But what happens if a princess is afraid of heights? Elizabeth has reached the age of ten but is not using her bedroom and has not told her family. Nothing could possibly go wrong, right? What is the kingdom to do when a dragon takes up residence in Elizabeth’s unused bedroom?
Enough Elizabeth’s is the first children’s picture book by author Heather Harris Bergevin, but you would never guess that this is her freshman outing. The narrative of Enough is entertaining, charming, and sure to catch the attention of your young ones.
Illustrator Lexi Hall has a gift, and her art greatly enhances Bergevin’s delightful storytelling. Her use of line and color and her style perfectly depict the magical and whimsical world that Elizabeth lives in. Hall’s rendering of Bergevin’s dragon is a creature that every little girl and boy (and a few parents, too) will want to bring home as a pet. As you read Enough Elizabeth’s, you find yourself wanting the dragon to cuddle up against your legs so you can give her all sorts of scritches.
Enough Elizabeth’s is a beautiful children’s story that will enchant and amuse. I highly recommend it for parents and grandparents, young children, or anyone working with preschool through second grade.
