Irreantum 21.3 — Restorations

Latter-day Saints, or Mormons, have had a long history with comics. At first, the comics were used primarily to teach church doctrines. However, more and more Mormons gradually began working with the medium to tell their own stories, sometimes religious with overtly Latter-day Saints themes, but more often as a means to transmit their creativity. This panel, moderated by Trevor Alvord (curator, BYU Library) and Theric Jepson (editor, Irreantum Literary Magazine), will bring together Mormons who are working in the comic industry, such as Matt Page (Future Day Saints) and Camilla Stark (Desert Prophet), creating their own comics, or developing Latter-day Saint characters in comics. The discussion will focus on how the tenets of the faith interact with the creation of comics, the challenges of being a Mormon who creates comics, the opportunities available, and where they see the future of this medium and their faith going in the future.
